Congratulations to all of the faculty members of the Skin Investigation Network of Canada (SkIN Canada), which was awarded a network grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research for $2 million over the next 5 years.

Dr. An-Wen Chan received the Research Mentor Award at the WCH Day of Excellence in Academics event. The Research Mentor Award honors researchers who have made significant contributions by sharing their knowledge and passion for research and innovation with trainees, colleagues, and staff.
Canadian Skin Patient Alliance (CSPA), 2023 Dermatologist of the Year
Dr. An-Wen Chan was awarded the 2023 Dermatologist of the Year by the Canadian Skin Patient Alliance. The award is the highest honour bestowed by the CSPA on one exceptional dermatologist each year, who demonstrates compassionate concern for the welfare and happiness of patients, commitment to community service that parallels their involvement in quality patient care, positive effects on others, and who performs outstanding patient care.
CIHR Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (CIHR-IMHA), 2023 Research Excellence Prize for Patient Engagement
Dr. An-Wen Chan and his team of collaborators in the Skin Investigation Network of Canada (SkIN Canada) received CIHR-IMHA Inclusive Research Excellence Prizes in the domain of Patient Engagement in recognition of their inaugural Priority Setting Initiative (see paper and infographics).

CIHR Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (CIHR-IMHA), 2023 Inclusive Research Excellence Prize
Dr. Aaron Drucker and his team of collaborators received CIHR-IMHA Inclusive Research Excellence Prizes in the domains of Team Science and Open Science for his project “Living systematic review and network meta-analysis of systemic immunomodulatory treatments for atopic dermatitis". This project compares the effectiveness of systemic treatments for atopic dermatitis, including biologics and JAK inhibitors, with regular updates as new data and new medications become available. The project has a substantial impact, as it is used by both the AAD and EuroGuiDerm to underpin clinical practice guidelines. The Team Science prize acknowledges the collaborative efforts of international dermatologists, methodologists, knowledge translation scientists and patients partners. The Open Science prize recognizes the team’s efforts to make the results readily accessible, including in open access publications and regular updates to their free website www.EczemaTherapies.com.

World Congress of Dermatology, Travel Award
Dr. Jorge-Ryan Georgakopoulos has received a travel award, in support of his attendance at the 25th World Congress of Dermatology in Suntec City, Singapore, on July 3-8, 2023.
PSI Foundation Resident Research Grant ($18,500)
Dr. Jorge Georgakopoulos was awarded the competitive PSI Foundation Resident Research Grant ($18,500) for his Canada-wide study title Follow-up of Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma (FOCS): A Multicentre Retrospective Cohort Study. This grant is awarded each year to a select number of residents from all specialties based on the proposed project and academic excellence. The SkIN Canada study supervised by Dr. An-Wen Chan aims to characterize current practices among dermatologists for follow-up of patients after the diagnosis of cutaneous SCC.

Congratulations to Dr. Perla Lansang, who received an MD Program Teaching Award of Excellence for the 2021-2022 academic year. This award recognizes faculty, residents, graduate student teachers and clinicians in the MD Program that have attained Teaching Evaluation Scores in the top 10% in one or more of the teaching activities to which they have contributed.

Dr. Vincent Piguet was nominated and accepted for membership in Sigma Xi, University of Toronto Chapter. Sigma Xi is an international, multidisciplinary community of science, technology, engineering, and mathematical (STEM) professionals dedicated to research excellence, promoting public engagement with science, and fostering the next generation of researchers.
Fabian Rodriguez-Bolanos

Winter Clinical - Miami, Rising Derm Stars Competition
Congratulations to Dr. Fabian Rodriguez-Bolanos, who was one of 20 residents across both the US and Canada chosen to compete in the Rising Derm Stars Competition, and present at the 2023 Winter Clinical in Miami. Fabian was chosen for his entry titled "Real-world experience of vitiligo patients: a retrospective chart review". This was a cross-sectional study in collaboration with Dr. Melinda Gooderham and an undergrad student, Chelsea Obeng-Asumeng (pending publication).
Dermatology Industry Taskforce on Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (DiTiDE), Short Essay Competition - Honorable Mention
Dr. Rodriguez-Bolanos also received an honorable mention in a short essay competition for Canadian dermatology residents, organized by the Dermatology Industry Taskforce on Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (DiTiDE). The essay, entitled "Hair Love", dealt with assessing patients with afro-textured hair in the hair clinic at Women's College Hospital (WCH).
