The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Caroline Kramer as Faculty Lead, Mentorship. Housed under the Culture and Inclusion portfolio, this appointment will take effect March 18, 2024 and is for a three-year term.
Dr. Kramer is an Associate Professor in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Toronto and a Clinician-Scientist at the Leadership Sinai Centre for Diabetes. She is an MD/PhD originally from Brazil (she has mixed Indigenous/Brazilian ancestry) and moved to Canada in 2012. Her clinical research has focused on the pathophysiology and risk factors for the development of type 2 diabetes (T2DM), risk factors for cardiovascular disease in individuals with metabolic abnormalities, and strategies for the treatment of T2DM (including lifestyle interventions). To date, her research has yielded more than 128 original peer-reviewed publications including first-authorship publications in high-impact general medical journals. She has received the Diabetes Canada Clinician-Scientist Award, Banting and Best New Investigator Award and her research has been funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
