Dr. Meshkat joined the faculty in the Division of Emergency Medicine at the University Health Network in 2004. She was subsequently promoted in 2006 to assistant professor, following the completion of her Master's of Health Administration. From 2010 to 2013, she worked as a fellow with the Centre in Innovation and Complex Care (now OpenLab).
Dr. Meshkat has focused her energies on equitable access to quality and efficient healthcare. She has been a key player in the successful launch of the first emergency medicine residency program in Ethiopia and co-led the development and implementation of the program’s curriculum. At CICC (now OpenLab) she has led and collaborated in bridging transitions of care for patients with atrial fibrillation. She currently splits her academic time as an emergency physician at UHN and as the program director of the Royal College Emergency Medicine Residency Program at the University of Toronto. At the core of her academic path is the empowerment of learners, patients and local populations in a sustainable manner.
